 This class meets the requirement for .5 credit of English or Elective credit

 Course Objectives:

1. Provide students with fundamental tools for effective reading and writing.

2. Provide students with opportunities for writing and practice in a test environment

 Materials:

OSPI Writing module

OSPI Reading modules

Action &/or Choices magazine, Scholastic

Course Requirements

1)       Weekly writing of 3-5 paragraphs.  Teacher will provide prompts in class.  You will have one week to compose a draft, revise grammar, spelling and conventions and write a final draft.  Final draft will be word processed and submitted both hard copy and electronic.

2)       Reading and vocabulary practice from Action magazine.  Teacher will provide weekly magazines and all material will be completed during the week as homework.  Students will be responsible for all vocabulary and reading.  You will be tested on vocabulary the following week.

3)        Writing Assessments – 10 in class writing assessments will be completed.  Students will practice in a test environment .These will be completed in class during the 2nd quarter.
