Technical Institute Open House
If you're
a high school senior, you're probably wondering about what's around the
corner after graduation. ITT Technical Institute can help with answers
to your questions about education after high school and provide a look
at some potential career options. This event is open to all high school
seniors on Saturday, October 17 from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm.
Career Day at the Pt. Defiance Zoo & Aquarium
On
Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 9:30 a.m.- 4 p.m., the Pt. Defiance Zoo
& Aquarium will be hosting a Career Day for all 6th-12th grade students
who are interested in finding out information about animal care and
education careers at a zoo or aquarium. This event is completely free
for students and no pre-registration is required.
National College Fair
Learn all
you need to know about your after high school options in 90 minutes! We
will be at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center on October 18,
2009 from 12:00pm-4:00pm and October 19, 2009 from 9:00am-12:00pm. For

Museum
Apprentice Program
The Museum
Apprentice Program provides high school students with a unique and
exciting volunteer opportunity. All MAP participants complete a 12-hour
training course on exhibit design, presentation techniques, and aviation
history. After the training class, participants choose one of three
Apprentice Pathways for continuing a year-long (30-hour minimum)
volunteer commitment to the Museum. For more information, please find

Washington Aerospace Scholars
Washington
Aerospace Scholars (WAS) is a NASA designed web-based educational
program for high school juniors. The WAS program emphasizes science,
technology, engineering, and math, and encourages students to consider
careers in these fields. This program has NO COST to its participants;
this includes the educational experience, travel, meals, and lodging
expenses. People that are eligible for this program are current juniors
in high school with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, current WA State
residents, U.S. citizens, able to access the internet, committed to
completing online lessons to qualify for a six-day residential summer
experience, and are interested in science, technology, engineering,
and/or math. For more information or for the application, please see Ms.

Seattle Aquarium Volunteering
Open for
students between the ages of 16-18, each student volunteers three
five-hour shifts per month from December-June. Shift times are Saturdays
or Sundays from 9am-2pm or 1pm-6pm, with occasional weekdays available
during school holiday breaks. During their shifts they give formal
talks, monitor and interpret Aquarium exhibits, conduct visitor tours,
and assist with other special events as they occur. Students are not
required to have any prior knowledge of marine science to be in the
program. We provide training during the weekends in November at the
Aquarium once the student ahs been accepted into the program.
Orientation will be held on Thursday, October 8th from 5:30-6:30pm OR
Sunday, October 11 from 11:00am-12:00pm. This meeting is MANDATORY and you
cannot be accepted in to this program without attending.
YMCA B.O.L.D.
Mountain School
Boys Outdoor
Leadership Development (BOLD), an outdoor education program of the Metrocenter
YMCA, is offering you the opportunity to be recommended by your school as an
eligible young man for a 2009 BOLD Mountain School scholarship. Each scholarship
is worth $250 towards a Level 1 summer expedition OR $450 towards a Level 2

Career Day
The maritime Event
Center, formerly the Odyssey Maritime Discovery Center, is proud to present the
11th Annual Maritime Career Day in conjunction with Maritime Festival on
Thursday, May 7th from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. Career Day provides a unique
opportunity to take a glimpse into the working world of trade, transportation,
fisheries, government and career training. Representatives of these sectors will
be present to offer information and insight into the growing and varied maritime
job market, one of the largest and often least understood employment sectors in
Washington State. With one out of every four jobs in Seattle related to this
sector, students will have the chance to learn about career and educational
opportunities and the type of preparation required. This opportunity is free of

Otis Summer of
Art Program
Summer of Art is
an intensive, four-week, pre-college program for students ages 15 and older who
wish to experience what it is like to study at one of the top art and design
colleges in the country. This program will be from July 6 to July 31. For more

Ecology Youth
Corps
This job will last
a total of four weeks, either June 29 to July 24 OR July 27 to August 21, 2009.
You must be 14 through 17 years old by the first day of employment to be
eligible. Applications must include a completed EYC Reference Form to be
accepted and considered for an interview. If you are hired, you will earn $8.55
per hour and will be paid twice a month. You will work 37.5 hours per week,
weekdays, excluding July 3. Your hours will be 7:00am until 2:30pm, two paid
breaks and 30 minute lunch time included. You will be covered by Washington
State Labor & Industries Insurance while working; but there are no other

TECHNOBOWL
The TECHNOBOWL
competition is conducted in a quiz-show format ("Jeopardy-style"). Questions
span categories in math, engineering, chemistry, biology, and the history of
science. Each year, the winning teams receive prize packages donated by local
and national companies, reaching total values of several thousand dollars. All
competitors get participation prizes, handouts, and goodies, as well as face
time with local engineers, scientists, and the UW community. To sign up, please

College of the Arts Pre-College Program
CCA's Pre-College
Program is an inspiring opportunity for high school students to study art or
creative writing in an art-school setting while earning 3 college credits.
Participants immerse themselves in a college-level curriculum and become part of
a creative community, meeting and working with other talented, serious students
from diverse backgrounds. While taking classes on CCA's beautiful and historic
Oakland campus, they can explore the Bay Area's rich culture and geography.
Pre-College provides a perfect platform to expand their knowledge, grow as
individuals, develop strong portfolio pieces, and get a taste of college life.
Priority deadline is March 20, 2009.

Mellon Summer Program
These programs
include: Advanced Placement/Early Action, Pre-College Fine Arts in Architecture,
Art, Design, Drama, and Music, and the National High School Game Academy. This
summer program is open to juniors and seniors in high school and will start on
June 27 to August 7, 2009.
A Teacher To
Remember
16th annual
student essay contest. All you do is send us a short essay about what made the
teacher you are nominating memorable. This is open for anyone in the grades
between 3-12. Essay rules are posted at

Women
in Science and Engineering Conference
This
conference is focused toward women interested in and studying science and
engineering from high school through graduate level. It will be hosted on
February 7, 2009 from 8:30 am-4:00 pm on the UW Seattle Main Campus,

The
Congress-Bundestag Vocational Exchange Program
The
Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program provides a unique
intercultural educational opportunity for American and German youth.
Each year over 300 American high schools students receive full
scholarships to become exchange students to Germany, where they will
live with host families for a year and attend German schools.
Similarly, German students live for a year with American families in the
United States. To be eligible, you must be at least 18 and no more than
19 years of age by July 1 of the departure year, be a graduating senior
who will complete U.S. school studies in January or June prior to
departure, have a 3.0 GPA, and have the ability to serve as an
ambassador of your country. Interested students MUST be nominated by
their high schools to apply for this program. Please see Ms. Gilmore in

HIGH
SCHOOL SUMMER PROGRAMS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
- Explore fascinating
topics, live on campus, meet students from around the world and country,
and enjoy the many attractions L.A. has to offer.
- Programs offered:
- Summer Seminars (July 3-30):
Choose from twenty seminars in a four-week, small-group format that meet
Monday-Friday for interactive discussions, lab work, and field trips. You
can earn 3 units of elective college credit.
- Exploration of Architecture (multiple programs starting July 3):
Participate in a hands-on introduction to architecture at one of the top
10 schools of architecture in the country. Tours of the architectural
landscape of L.A., visit offices of working architects, and studio design
instruction will be included.
- Summer Science Camp for High School Women (July 27- August 3): Explore
the aquatic and terrestrial life of Catalina Island's ecosystem in this
introduction to the scientific life.

more while learning how to increase reading speed in textbooks and easier
reading materials.
