2014 Lady Wolves - Golf Information

General Information

No experience, no problem!  The Cedarcrest Golf Team strives to develop lifelong enjoyment of golf regardless of a player's starting skill level. While having previous golf knowledge and skill is a large advantage, experience is not necessary to learn, enjoy, and compete in this wonderful game.

In the upcoming 2014 season, we will have a very small returning group.  Last year there were no Seniors or Freshman on the squad.  However, it is still a great time to join as there will be a good strong varsity core for leadership and competition, and a  lot of room to build for success in future years.  If joining a quality, successful, and fun sport at Cedarcrest would interest you, keep reading!

Practices well be held at Blue Heron Golf Course (formerly Carnation GC).  Practice will be held from 3pm - about  5pm Monday thru Thursday.   Friday practices are directed around the school schedule with an emphasis on getting experienced players out and playing on the course.  A general schedule will be handed out at our first day meeting on  Monday, March 3, 2014.  Each player is expected to have their own set of clubs.  If this will be a problem, please speak with the coaches and we'll work something out.  Other equipment needs and practice requirements will be discussed at the first practice.  Transportation to the Blue Heron is not provided by the school, however there is a Riverview bus route from CHS that passes the course.  We know transportation is often a hurdle for younger players, and we will do our best to try to accomodate and help all players to attend practice.

Additional information is available on our FAQ's Document

If you have any questions about the team, season, or program in general, please ask.  Stop by and visit Coach McLaughlin in room 207 or email me at mclaughl@riverview.wednet.edu  or  Coach Tachell at the Blue Heron.  We hope to see you out there on the first day of practice :)

2014 Season Update

Feb 6- Thanks to all of those that came to the pre-season meeting today.  We are looking forward to a great season.   Here are just a couple of things to keep in mind as you prepare for the season

1) Recruit Recruit Recruit (especially freshmen)

2) Get your paperwork in by Feb 27th

3) Get practicing before the season begins

4) Get ready for our first practice on
           Monday, March 3

Our league schedule is also finalized, and will be updated on this site soon.

An all team email will be sent out by Monday, February 24.  If you do not receive it, please email me and I will update your address.

See other information below, and otherwise, we will see you on Monday, March 3 at  3:30 pm

What you can do out of season!

1) Keep yourself fit - golf IS an athletic activity.  If
you are more active and athletic, you will likely be
    a better golfer

2) Don't let you clubs collect dust - whether it be just
going to practice range, or playing a full round, you
need to get out at least once every two weeks if
you want to keep your skills during the winter.
Click here to see information on a fall golf league

3) Putt putt putt - on carpet, indoors, just make sure
nothing breakable is around.  Give yourself a target
and work on a good putting stroke.  Remember
putting is often 30-40% of your score.

4) Watch golf on tv - although those players are really
really really good, simply watching golf can help you
pick up a lot of the intricacies of the game, mostly
that not every shot is perfect :)

2012 Season in Review

June 1 - 2012 was definately the start of rebuilding the girls golf program.  While Cedarcrest was home to the 2012 individual league champion Courtney Hoekstra, all other golfers combined had only 8 matches of varsity experience.  Thankfully, those golfers were all young and were the start of a great core for the future.

By the end of the season, Cedarcrest was scoring on level with the other teams in the Cascade Conference.  3 golfers from Cedarcrest advanced to the 2nd day of the District 1 tournament.  Caitlin Brenner became the 1st sophomore in the last decade (and perhaps Cedarcrest Girls Golf history) to qualify for the state tournament.  Unfortunately she had to unseat two of her own teamates to do it.  However, Caitlin represneted Cedarcrest very well and gained some valuable experience for years to come.

With no current golfers in the class of 2013, next season looks to be another year for this same young core to improve and mature.  We look forward to not only the 2013 season, but the 2014 season as well!!

2011 Season in Review

June 1 - 2011 was a surprise season for the Cedarcrest Golf Team.  With only 3 varsity returning players, Seniors Lauren Houk and Sierra Berg, and Junior Jordan Short, it looked like we would rely on youth to get us through the season.  While there were several new players that turned out, two new upperclassman were what spurred on a great season.  Transfer Junior Courtney Hoekstra and first time Senior Sam Dunn joined with the returners to create a very talented team.

The regular season went very well for the Red Wolves winning all nine league matches.  It was the second time Lauren and Sierra had been involved in an undefeated season.  Courtney, Lauren, and Sam all finished with all league individual honors.  At the Conference Championship Match, many other girls from other teams played extremely well, and Cedarcrest was unable to gain back the League Title that we had lost a year earlier.   The District Tournament provided an opportunity for some redemption, and the team played well to place 4th overall, beating out all other Cascade Conference schools.  The results allowed us to end our season on a high note, sending two representatives to the State, Lauren Houk and Sam Dunn

Lauren and Sierra finished a great four years at Cedarcrest.  They were a part of two league championship teams, two undefeated regular seasons, and were a part of many scoring records for the league.  They leave a team that has a bright future thanks to the four years of leadership they showed.  Lauren was one of only three golfers in Cedarcrest history to qualify for state twice, and receive all league honors for all four years.   At the end of the year, she was also inducted into the Cedarcrest Athletic Hall of Fame for her golf accomplishments.

Even with all that talent, ability, and character leaving the program, we look forward to a very bright future in 2012.
