Six Traits Of Writing

1)   Ideas: Content

  • My paper is interesting, clear, and focused.  Ideas are developed and strongly supported.

2)   Organization: Structure

  • My paper has a good beginning, middle, and end (hook, details, wrap up).  In an essay or research paper, ideas and paragraphs are linked together with transitions, and the logic of the argument is clear.

3)   Voice: The Writer

  • My paper reflects my personality and individuality.

4)   Word Choice: Language

  • The words I chose create a vivid picture for the reader.

5)   Sentence fluency: Flow

  • My sentences dance. They are long, short, stretchy, snappy.

6)   Conventions: Mechanics

  • My paper has been edited for capitalization, punctuation, spelling, grammar, and paragraphing.
