| Tardy Policy |
The Cedarcrest Social Studies Department follows Plan #1 as stated in the CHS Student Handbook. The policy reads as follows: |
|
Students are expected to be in the classroom ready for class to begin when the tardy bell sounds. A student who has three (3) tardies will have their grade dropped one grade level i.e. A to A-, B+ to B, etc. This will affect the grade in multiples of 3 tardies, therefore if a student has an A in the class and 6 tardies, their grade would be a B+, if a student has an A and 9 tardies their grade would be a B. If necessary, grades will be adjusted for tardies at mid-term and/or at end of the term only. |
Attendance Policy |
The Cedarcrest Social Studies Department adheres to the same attendance policy as every other department at CHS. The attendance policy is clearly stated in the student handbook and in every social studies syllabus. The policy reads as follows: |
During each 18-week
period, students are allowed only 10 excused or unexcused absences. School
related absences (field trips, in-school suspension, out-of-school suspension,
etc.) are not counted toward the 10-day absence rule. Students who
accumulate more than 10 absences within an 18-week semester will not receive
credit for any classes in which they exceed 10 absences. Absences can not be made up; however,
work may be made up for excused absences. It is the student’s responsibility to arrange
for make-up work with their teachers. Students who are more than 10 minutes tardy to
class are considered absent. Students who lose
credit due to excessive absences may request a hearing with the building
attendance appeal committee which will review any documented evidence which
supports the students appeal for credit and rule on whether credit will be
allowed. If credit is not allowed at the
end of the term the grade for affected classes will be recorded as an “F” on
the student’s transcript. If a student
is still not satisfied following the in-building appeal he/she may appeal the
decision to the district hearing officer. Early dismissals and Pre-Arranged Absences Early dismissals and pre-arranged absences must be arranged prior
to the absence. The attendance office
will not issue admit slips after the fact.
LEAVING CAMPUS WITHOUT PRIOR
PERMISSION WILL NOT BE EXCUSED.
In-School-Suspension and Out-of-School Suspension are consequences given
to students who leave campus without permission. Make-Up for Excused Absences Make-up work will be allowed, but only for excused absences. The student will be responsible for all make-up arrangements. Assignments for long-term, excused absences can be arranged for students through the attendance office. |
