JV Coach: Scott Henry 2003 C-Team Roster
Freshman Coach: Nick Rich Red Wolves Baseball The C-Team made their yearly trip to Blaine to participate in the Blaine High School Tournament. The players and coach, Nick Rich, spent the night in the Blaine High School Gymnasium, and although they didn't get much sleep, they had a great deal of fun. The Blaine trip has become a tradition for the C-Team and provides the players with a bonding experience they will hopefully remember for many years to come. The parent volunteers and chaperones are what made this trip possible each year and every year, and the Cedarcrest Baseball program and coaching staff would like to thank all the parents who took time out of their busy schedules to make the trip this season. Although the season did not end the way many players would have liked, there were a number of bright spots in the opinion of the coaching staff. Taylor Wilkinson won the C-Team MVP award, Erik Alness received the Most Improved award, and Cyle Potter won the Most Inspirational award. The Junior Varsity was an extremely young team this year with 7 freshmen making this years JV roster. As many young teams often do, the JV had their rocky moments, but toward the end of the year they began playing better baseball and one some exciting games. With such a young core of talented players the coaching staff is looking forward to some good things over the next couple years. Phillip Knight won the teams MVP award, Danny Nambo won the Most Inspirational, and Cameron Roets received the Most Improved award. The Varsity came into the season as a younger team than in previous years as well with 4 sophomores and 4 juniors receiving significant playing time. Although the talent and potential of the team was evident throughout the season, the youth and inexperience also showed at times, as the varsity struggled to find its personality and loss a number of close and competitive games. The final season record was by no means an accurate representation of how the team played throughout the season considering they lost 7 games by three runs or less, Including an extra inning loss to the eventual 3A State Champions (Liberty HS) who had to utilize the Washington State Player of the Year award winner (Tim Lincecum) to secure the victory. More evidence of their competitiveness in the toughest 3A league in the state is the fact that the team was winning at one point or another in half the games they played during the season as well, losing a couple one run games and finally winning the season finale against Sammamish behind the complete game pitching performance of Tony Smith. Another sign that the season record does not accurately represent the overall talent level of the team was the outstanding season put together by a number of different players. Cody Thompson (.302, 10 RBI, 2 HR), Walter Robison (.365, 11 RBI, 2 HR, 11 SB), and Ben Brooks (7 runners thrown out stealing) were all selected as honorable mention for KingCo 3A, while Russell McGinnis (.293 11 RBI, 2 HR) and Derek Foote (.375, 11 RBI, 15 Runs, 15 BB, 1 HR) were both selected second team all league for KingCo 3A. Derek Foote was also selected as one of the top 18 players in KingCo 3A and was a member of the All-Star team. With a lot of talent returning next season, and the improved play exhibited at the end of this season, the coaching staff is definitely expecting great things for the Varsity Cedarcrest baseball team in the future.
