History of Halloween

Well  surprisingly the one of the origins of the celebration we call Halloween is from the Catholic church. This day was in honor of the saints . Although Ireland was not using this as the same meaning though, for them it was the last day of their summer which meant the end of there festival Samhain, or the Celtic New Year.

The Celts also believed that the laws of space and time were broken  on these days  so those who have passed in the last year. With this the villagers dressed in unlikable costumes and made undesirable noises. This way that ghosts and passed would become scared, and not bother them.

The Romans also decided to adapt the ways of this tradition, make this day into a celebration as well. But there celebration was in honor of the fruit and tree goddess Pomona. Ironically her symbol was an apple, maybe we can thank the Romans for out beloved tradition of bobbing for apples.
