THE HISTORY OF ALL HALLOWS EVE The history of Halloween is not so dark as humans would think. In fact it started out as a joyous new year. The Celts held their calendar on November first, this time of year marked the start of harvest and longer colder nights. The Celts also associated this with human death, and lost souls. Because this, for them, it was a new year they thought that the boundary between the living world and the world of the dead was blurred, and thou this time lost souls would seep through to our world. Many Druid and Celtic Priest ratified this idea because it help them associate disaster, and fill inconsistencies in their teachings. Many people had their own thoughts on the matter, and some of the most "faithful believers" came up with ways of appeasing their deities to help rid them of the spirits, such as offering huge amounts of food and other things dear to them. This continued until the Romans invaded, then the Celtic holiday and the Roman holiday combined. The Roman holiday Feraila celebrated the dead as well, Through this marriage of cultures the holiday lived on into the 800's. By this time had ratified the date of November, 1 as all saints day. Later the church added another day, November, 2 as all souls day, this day fully celebrated lost souls, and the dead.
