The American Revolution

The American Revolution occurred during 1775-1781 under the supervision of  the U.S. president; George Washington. This great war against the British started because of a few very important events. First, because the British put the Quartering act into place. This forced American colonists to house and feed British forces who were serving in North America. The colonists were angered by this, but had no choice. Another reason was because of the Townsend acts. These laws included special taxes on lead, paint, paper, glass, and tea imported by colonists. And lastly, the Boston Tea Party. When the tea act was passed, people were not too happy, so on the evening of December 6th, 1773 thousands of Bostonians climbed aboard three vessels; dressed as Indians, and threw 90,000 pounds of tea overboard. Needless to say, the war was on at this point! After a six year period, the war finally ended with the battles of Yorktown in 1781. During this battle, General George Washington traveled to Yorktown and moved South. And together with General Cornwallis, the French ground, and naval forces, they surrounded the British army; forcing it to surrender, therefore ending the war.

Major battles of the war include:

Lexington and Concord

Battle at Bunker Hill

Battle of Monmouth

Battle of Yorktown
