| Return to Home World War II World War II began in 1939 and came to an end in 1945. The U.S. was on the side of the Allied forces, Which included; Russia, France, and Great Britain, just to name a few. Commander and Chief at the time of the war was Franklin D Roosevelt. The war began for Europe when Hitler attacked Poland, Hitler and the Axis powers, which included; Italy, Germany, and Japan, were on their way to attempt to concur the world. It wasn't until Japan attacked Pear Harbor on December 7th 1941 that the U.S. joined the fight against the Axis powers. The war came to end in Europe when Hitler committed suicide. The war then ended for the U.S. and the Japanese when America dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Major battles of the war include:
