THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION The American revolution started in 1775 and ended in in 1783 with the treaty of Paris. The revolution began when the British put heavy taxes on the American Colonists. Before long the Colonists resisted and the Revolutionary war began. The Americans were poor and had to recruit vast amounts of militia, but with the help of France they had a fighting chance. On the other hand Britain was rich and hired mercenaries. The revolutionary war ended in 1783 with the help of the defeat and York Town, which lead to the treaty of Paris.
