THE CIVIL WAR

The civil war began in 1861 and lasted until 1865.  The war involved the North and South parts of the United States.  The people in the north believed slavery was wrong, and wanted it to be abolished.  But with this came a big problem.  who would pick the crops and such.  So the war began, and the Union (North) and the South (confederates) began fighting.  During the war over 620,000 soldiers and people were killed.  In the end, the overwhelming power and money of the North defeated the South, which set the slaves free and ended the war.
