WORLD WAR II World War II was one of the most tragic wars in U.S. history. It lasted from 1939 to 1945. President at the time for the United States was Franklin D. Roosevelt. The United States went to war with Germany and Japan. The war with Germany was most likely caused from the Treaty of Versailles of World War I. That drove Germany into the ground. So then they got angry and appointed Hitler their leader and they revolted against the United States. Along with Japan bombing Pearl Harbor, so then the U.S. was at war with two countries. What ended the war was the United States dropping atomic bombs on Japan big cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Also, by driving through Europe with an army and defeating Germany and Hitler.
