WORLD WAR II World War II started in 1939, involving many different countries, such as Britain, Soviet Union, Germany, France, Japan, Italy, USA, and many more. During the war, Franklin D. Roosevelt served as president, as well as Harriet Truman. The conflict with the Germans arose soon after Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany. After coming to power, he invaded both Austria and Poland, in order to take more control, and evacuate Jews. After the United States got involved, the war continued on until the battle of the Atlantic, when Germany surrendered. Major battles of the war include: Bombing of Berlin
