THE CIVIL WAR

Another battle that impacted our lives was the Civil War. At the time Abraham Lincoln was the president with Jefferson Davis as the confederate president. After Abraham Lincoln's assassination, Andrew Johnson became president. The war lasted for four years, starting in 1861 and ending in 1865 with General Lee surrendering at Appomattox Courthouse in North Virginia. As the title of the war describes, this civil war was against only one country: America. Particularly between the North (Union) and South (Confederate) of our country. The major cause of this war was mostly about which states should admit slavery and which shouldn't. It was also a matter of economics, where the north was more industrial and the south was more agricultural.

Major battles of the war include: Gettysburg, the Battle of Bull Run, Fort Sumter, and the Battle of Nashville.
