The Coaching Staff

 

Co-head coach - Bruce McDowell

Fifteen years as a co-head coach. Bruce coaches the distance runners, but is also in charge of the paperwork and statistics. He teaches mathematics and is also the head cross country coach at CHS. Bruce graduated from Columbia River H.S. (Vancouver, WA) where he competed in track and field and cross country. He was the State AAA 3200m champ in 1985 and was a H.S. All-American. Bruce is a graduate of the University of Washington where he competed in track and field and cross country. His "T&F Widow"'s name is Kim and they have a son Patrick, who will be eleven in June and Riley who will be eight in August.  The McDowell family resides in Snohomish.

 

Co-head coach - Marc Hillestad

Ten years as co-head coach, thirteen year overall in the program.  Marc coaches the sprinters, jumpers and javelin throwers. Marc teaches Marketing/Vocational classes and is also the head girls' basketball coach at CHS. Marc graduated from Tenino H.S. where he competed in track and field, cross country, basketbal, and baseball. He was valedictorian of his graduating class of Tenino H.S. Marc is a graduate of Gonzaga University, where he competed in track and field and golf. His wife, Christine, is the head volleyball coach at CHS.  Their daughter, Olivia, will be five in October and a new daughter Natalie.  The Hillestads live in Carnation.

 

Assistant coach - Lisa Woodard

Lisa is in her thirteenth year of coaching the hurdlers and sprinters. A graduate of Forks H.S., she competed in track and field, basketball, volleyball and softball. A graduate of Western Washington University, she competed in track and field.  Lisa works for Monroe School District as a school counselor.  She and her husband Michael reside in the Lake Stevens / Monroe area.

 

Assistant coach - Doug Jackson

Doug is in his sixth year as the throws coach for the team.  He is a 1999 Cedarcrest graduate.  Doug is a substitute teacher at CHS and is an assistant football.  Doug is the school record holder in the shot put and the discus.  He was a three time state meet qualifier and placer in the shot put and is a member of the CHS Hall of Fame and the CHS Track and Field Hall of Fame.  A graduate of the University of Washington, Doug competed in track and field for the Huskies.  Doug and his wife, Wendy, reside in Monroe.

 

Assistant coach - Matt Pleis

Matt is in his second year as the pole vault coach for the team.  Matt was a pole vaulter in HS and in college, University of California, Berkley.  Matt is married to Shawn.  His children, Kallie (senior) and Jackson (sophomore) attend Cedarcrest HS.  Daughter Maggie is a student at Tolt M.S.
