English 2009/10 This class meets the requirement for .5 credit of English or Elective credit each semester. Course Objectives: 1) Increase the students’ ability to write effectively and develop ideas. 2) Increase the students’ ability to use writing to persuade and explain. 3) Increase students’ vocabulary when reading and writing. 4) Improve grammar and writing conventions for readability.
Course Requirements 1) Reading and Writing Sourcebook (Green Book) Assignments will be made weekly with the goal to complete the workbook in the year 2) Vocabulary for Achievement. (Lemur Book) Weekly lessons assigned with in class activity. You may work ahead but you need to know all of the weeks words for the quiz. You will be tested on vocabulary weekly on Mondays. 3) Writing Assessments – 5 in class writing assessments will be completed each semester. Students will practice in a test environment and get familiar with the test environment. 4) Independent reading assignments. I will give you reading assignments on Monday from the Seattle Times newspaper. You can begin the assignment in class after you finish the vocabulary test and finish it for homework.
